Surfing Holidays in St Ives

Surfing holidays are popular in St Ives and Cornwall generally. St Ives enjoys the same excellent north coast surf conditions as nearby Newquay and the town offers a choice of surf shops for hire and purchasing of equipment. The main surfing beach in St Ives is Porthmeor which has lifeguard patrols and a surf school to help you get the maximum enjoyment from your surfing holiday in safety.

If you are unfamiliar with Cornwall's coast, we would strongly recommend using beaches with lifeguard patrols - there are a good choice of them - as the tides and currents can catch out even quite experienced surfers.

Surfing holidays at The Regent offer the fun of the outdoors with a great town centre location, comfortable accommodation and a hearty meal to start the day! The beaches at Hayle and Newquay on the North Coast and Praa sands and Falmouth on the south coast are within easy driving distance making St Ives a good central location for a varied surfing holiday.

Painting Holidays in St Ives

Painting holidays in St Ives have long been popular as the town has a long artistic history and tradition. Inspiration is all around you, with the Tate St Ives the biggest and most famous gallery of many to be found in the town. From our sea view rooms, inspiration lies outside your window with views across the town and out to sea. It is the particular quality of the light in the town and on the beaches which draws artists from around the UK and the world for painting holidays in St Ives.

Being all-but surrounded by the sea, the light does amazing things - shifting with the tide and time of day to create wonderful effects that cry out to be captured on canvas. With so many keen artists to be found in the town at all times of year St Ives is a great location to combine a relaxing break with your hobby.

Beach Holidays in Cornwall

Cornwall offers some of the finest sandy beaches for a "traditional" beach holiday to be found in the UK. St Ives offers a selection of great beaches at Porthmeor and Porthminster. Hayle Towans a few minutes up the coast offers a long expanse of sandy beach with dunes behind with views across the estuary back towards St Ives.

Beach holidays are as popular in Cornwall as ever, with families finding that the choice of swimming, surfing, sand-castle building or sun bathing suit all family members whatever their age. From your bed and breakfast accommodation at The Regent in St Ives you can easily travel to a whole range of the county's best beaches on both the north and south coast, providing good variety in terms of surroundings and surf conditions.

Walking Holidays in Cornwall

Cornwall is a great county to explore on foot and it is fair to say some of the county's "best bits" can only be reached on foot. The obvious choice is the South West Coast Path which has been designated a National Trail. The path travels through St Ives and the section from St Ives towards Lands End certainly takes in some amazing sections of coastline. Other sections of coast path worth exploring on a walking holiday in Cornwall would be The Lizard, around Cadgwith, Falmouth, which offers Pendennis Castle and the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall and the area around Tintagel with its famous castle. Land's End, too, is well worth a visit since just a short distance from the more commercialised area at the extreme tip the coastline quickly becomes wild and dramatically rugged.

Walking holidays need not be confined to the coast of Cornwall however. The landscape of Bodmin Moor is crossed with numerous paths and trails and a climb to the top of one of the Tors, such as Roughtor, is well worth the effort for the view from the top. The cycle ways such as the Camel Trail and the Bissoe Mineral tramway are just as suitable to walkers as cyclists and offer fairly easy walking conditions through some great countryside.
